McKenzie's School

OK - so I haven't been good at all about adding to this blog, but practice, practice, practice. Yesterday I signed my daughter up for school.

I signed her up in her new school, Primrose School, yesterday. We got there about 9:15am (of course I have been talking to her about school and she kept telling me, “No ‘cool! No teacher! No kids!”). She was a little shy and hid by my leg. She didn’t want to go into the class by herself so I went in with her and joined their circle time. They were showing pictures that had some of their schools characters and what the characters were telling them how to act in school. The teacher holds up one card and some kids say the name, “Mia.” McKenzie (with her outside voice) claims, “Mouse! Mummy – Mouse!” OK, so I giggled – she will catch on. It goes hand-in-hand with the cow character (that I cannot remember the name) that says, “In school we speak with our inside voice.”

She wanted to start playing with the toys while they were still in circle time and I could not get her to return to the circle. I just told the Asst Teacher that I was leaving because she was not going to listen to me in this scenario. I left and started the orientation process and getting all the forms that I needed to complete for her enrollment. Since I was waiting around anyway, I just started to plod through the forms (they were going to allow me to take them home).

I took a peak in the class and they had started their snack time so I saw McK sitting at the little table with her buds eating with them. Then they came out of class to go to the playground. She ran over to me excited and then ran right back (when they brought her in to change her diaper she didn’t give me a second thought). They were outside for a long time playing and I was able to finish all the papers and wait for her to be done. When she came back in, she ran over to tell me that she had fun. I was telling her that we needed to leave and she said “No!” and ran back to her class.

They said that since they had all the information and she was enrolled that she could stay if she wanted to stay. So, I thought I would get some shopping done. I stayed close in case when they went for nap time McK wasn’t having any of it. I popped back in and she was laying on the cot with her “feefy” (changed from “weefy”). She wasn’t sleeping, but she was in quiet time. When I returned 1.5 hours later she was knocked out.

Since Primrose is still under enrollment (they opened in February), her class is small. There are 6 boys and, now, 2 girls. The confusing part for her may be that two of the boys are identical twins and the other little girl is also a Mackenzie (with the obvious spelling difference). So, they thought that since the other Mac called herself “Kenzie” they would use that to separate them. Good thought EXCEPT that when you ask my McKenzie her name she says “Kenzie” too.

More on this later...
